About VOMO
A platform with a purpose.
As a member of the Virtuous family, our mission at VOMO is to help organizations grow generosity. We’re doing that by serving organizations and volunteers who are meeting needs in their local communities around the world.
Our History
How did we get here?
No matter how much growth we see or how much our world changes each year, the journey continues to be exciting as we look to broaden our impact and deepen our engagement with each of our partners.
2016
VOMO launches as a platform
VOMO launches in beta form as a platform to coordinate 12,000 service projects for 500,000 people gathering in the National Mall in Washington, DC to serve their community. This results in a collaboration between 300 churches, the Mayor’s office of D.C., the National Parks Service, and multiple organizations including World Vision and the Maclellan Foundation where over $350,000 of combined volunteer economic impact is donated in one weekend.
2017
Growth of volunteer mobilization
VOMO grows across businesses, schools, municipalities, and nonprofit sectors to fuel a movement of volunteering across the nation.
2019
$7.4MM economic impact through volunteers
In the Spring of 2019, VOMO worked in cooperation with the Dallas Morning News to launch FWD>DFW. VOMO serves as the volunteer mobilization arm of that effort. By the end of 2019, we had over 300 partners, helping them to engage their people in meaningful volunteer opportunities.
VOMO partnered with Sony to launch a nationwide volunteer campaign called “Be a Neighbor” in conjunction with the release of the movie “Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” about the life of Fred Rogers.
In 2019 VOMO saw:
- 101,973 new volunteers
- 14,295 new projects
- 231,182 unique service opportunities
- 291,010 volunteer hours
- Economic impact of $7,400,395
- 31 countries represented
2020
Supporting during a global pandemic
In response to the COVID-19 crisis, VOMO resurrected the “Be a Neighbor” campaign in order to mobilize volunteers for COVID-19 relief efforts. Working in cooperation with Builders and Backers, we saw 154,491 projects completed across more than 225,000 hours served over the course of 12 weeks.
While the world adapted to new normals and social distancing measures, our team stood ready to help drive new volunteers, reward existing volunteers and grow our partners’ donor databases through innovative approaches to volunteerism.
2022
Joining the Virtuous Family
VOMO’s mission to change the world took the next step when they joined the Virtuous family in early 2022. Through a shared vision to grow generosity, the complementary nature of our platforms, and the opportunity to provide a holistic solution for our customers led us to combine our platforms to better serve our global nonprofit community.
Growing global generosity involves much more than just increasing financial giving. True generosity includes your supporters giving their time, talent, social capital and more. For many nonprofits, the most valuable gift they can receive from their supporters is the gift of time in the form of volunteerism.
In order to fulfill Virtuous’ promise of Responsive Fundraising and Growing Global Generosity and VOMO’s promise of serving those who serve others, it was critical to move into a true partnership that would help nonprofits increase volunteerism along with financial giving.
